Local Area Youth Orchestra
Local youth orchestra are available for youth in the area. Cost varies and most audition at
certain times of the year.
American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra

This group includes four orchestras at different skill levels (preparatory and advanced).
Applicants who qualify at the preparatory skill level will be eligible for the preparatory
orchestras (String Ensemble and Concert Orchestra). Applicants who qualify at the
advanced skill level will be eligible for the advanced orchestras (Symphonic Orchestra and
American Youth Philharmonic).
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings.
Washington Metropolitan Youth Orchestra

The WMYO is composed of some of the area's finest young musicians who are serious
about their musical development, whether or not they intend to pursue a musical career. Its
goal is to provide members with the excitement of performing challenging music in a
medium-sized orchestra.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings.
McLean Youth Orchestra

MYO has an exchange program with its "sister" youth orchestra in Chiba, Japan. For the
past several years MYO has either traveled to Japan or hosted musicians from the Chiba
youth orchestra. In addition, members of the MYO can be granted college credit through
Northern Virginia Community College.
Rehearsals are on Saturday mornings.
The Youth Orchestras of Fairfax

The Youth Orchestras of Fairfax are two ensembles comprised of talented school-aged
musicians from the Greater Washington D.C. area. The Youth Symphony Orchestra of
Fairfax (YSO) is complete with strings and winds. The Junior Orchestra of Fairfax (JO)
features intermediate level strings.
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings.

YOPW enrolls approximately 375 students in three string orchestras, two symphony
orchestras, a wind symphony, and a variety of chamber music ensembles. Students are
primarily from Prince William County, Virginia, but YOPW members come from all over
Northern Virginia and North Central Virginia.
