Dress Attire for Concerts
A sharp looking ensemble adds to the overall aesthetics of the performance, leaves a
positive impression on the audience, and boosts the confidence and morale of the players.
It is for these reasons that the Sandburg Orchestras require a standard concert uniform.
Students who do not wear the complete uniform to concerts will not perform and will be
graded accordingly. Students who cannot perform due to injury are required to attend the
concert in concert dress.
Measurements will be obtained and uniforms assigned during the first week of school.
School rentals must be returned at the end of the school year.
Mandatory Middle School Concert Attire
Girls: Full length orchestra dress (rent or buy from orchestra), black dress shoes, black or
neutral hose. Small black ribbons or bows or okay. No large earrings. Make sure your hair
does not impede your playing.
String and concert girls dresses are the same. Symphonic girls have a different dress.
Fittings at beginning of year. Dresses may be hemmed if necessary. Recommend dresses
have room to grow and room to bow.
Boys: Black pants, long-sleeved white dress shirt, black socks, and black dress shoes. No
tennis shoes, black jeans or white socks.
Black pants and a white shirt can be difficult to find at short notice. Recommend trying on
pants and shirts one to two weeks before each concert.

The rest of the concert attire is the responsibility of students and their families to acquire.
Parents make sure you have your children try on concert attire several days or weeks
before a concert or performance. Girls may need to have dresses hemmed, boys may
have grown since the last concert and may need new black pants or a new shirt. Students
need to be dressed appropriately for their performances.
