Orchestra Festival - Friday, March 12th @ Falls Church HS  (Updated 10
March)
NOTE: The hard copy version of these details handed out in 1st period (String Ensemble)
was incorrect. This version is correct.

CONCERT ATTIRE REQUIRED!!!

String Ensemble and Concert Orchestra students will be traveling to Falls Church HS for
the VBODA Orchestra Festival.  Students will need to be released from 5th period at 12:
15. Any student normally assigned C/D lunch will need to eat B lunch at 11:35.  (A lunch
students will still eat at the regular time.) Students will report to the orchestra room at  
12:20 to change into concert attire. These orchestras will be returning to school after
school hours and are responsible for any worked missed.

**Parents, if you are going pick your child up from Falls Church HS following their
performance please notify me in writing by Thursday at lunchtime so that I may have
appropriate attendance rosters ready for the chaperones.**

Performance: 3:50       
Return to Sandburg:  4:45
This group will be traveling to Falls Church by school bus.  Please note:

time but will return to Sandburg at different times. Students will need to picked up at Carl
Sandburg at 4:45

Concert Orchestra  
Depart Sandburg @ 12:45      
Warm-up: 4:45      
Performance Time 4:50   
Return to Sandburg 5:45
This group will be traveling to Falls Church by school bus.  Please note:
String Ensemble and Concert orchestra students will travel to Falls Church at the same
time but will return to Sandburg at different times. Students will return to Carl Sandburg
and need parental pick up at 5:45.

Symphonic Orchestra   
Depart Sandburg @ 4:30             
Warm-up:  5:40      
Performance Time 6:10
This group will be transported to Falls Church through parental carpool. Students should
meet at the orchestra room at 4:10 with instruments for attendance and departure at
4:30.

Parents pick up your student from the CMSC parking lot around 7:30pm.

If you are picking your child up at the performance you should be at Falls Church High
School by 6:30pm.


Symphonic Trip to National Airport - 22 April 2010
Symphonic will be performing at the National Airport along with the band and choir
celebrating our partnership with the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority. Details will
follow in the next few weeks but here is what I have thus far:

April 22, 2010
Students will stay after school to  rehearse and have an afternoon snack.

Depart Sandburg at 4:30
Arrive at the airport at 5:30 for set up/warm-up

6:00 pm Prelude Music:  Orchestra performs during appetizers and refreshments.
6:30 pm                          Program commences with Orchestra and Choir perform
                                 “God Bless America”
                                  Speeches/presentations
                                  Jazz Band
8:00                               Load up
8:30                               Return to Sandburg

Parent volunteer drivers will be needed.

Fairfax Symphony Orchestra Free/ Discounted Tickets for Upcoming
Performances
The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra still has free tickets (first 100 tickets) available for
students in elementary, middle and high school for our
concert this Saturday, March
13,
2010 at 8:00 p.m. at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts. These tickets
must be reserved through by visiting our website:
www.fairfaxsymphony.org.  

Accompanying adults receive the special rate of $35 when attending with a student.  After
the first 100 tickets are reserved, students may obtain reduced-rate tickets at $15.
                                      
This performance features the East Coast premiere of a piano concerto called Lost Souls,
written by composer Avner Dorman and performed by pianist Alon Goldstein.  

ADDITIONAL FREE EVENTS we have prepared this week with these world-renowned
musicians.  Reservations are not required for these.
